STEP 2

Set up myfitnesspal_rawdata

The following instructions are to allow access to your myfitnesspal data and enable the spreadsheet 'myfitnesspal_rawdata' to log daily your daiy nutrient intake

If you are having trouble following the steps below  there is a video bottom of the page demonstrating setting up myfitnesspal.

Requirements:

  • A Myfitnesspal account you will use to track your food intake

  • Your myfitnesspal_rawdata Google sheet

  • A laptop/computer to complete the following steps on

  1. Log in to https://www.myfitnesspal.com/account/login

  2. Click on "Settings" -> "Diary Settings"

  3. Scroll down to the bottom on the page and change your "Diary sharing" to public 

  4. Click "Save changes"

  5. Go to your google drive and open your spreadsheet "myfitnesspal_rawdata" (this can be found in My drive -> Nutrition Tracking -> rawdata -> myfitnespal_rawdata)

  6. In cell A1 at the top-left of the sheet input your myfitnesspal username (ensure there are no spaces after your username)

  7. Click on the link in the cell adjacent to test if the sheet is functional  

  8. You should be redirected to a website listing your food log from today

  9. If the data withing the spreadsheet is listed as "N/A" either your myfitnesspal username has been inputted incorrectly (make sure you have not added a space at the end of your username) or you have not yet logged any food for that day

  10. On your spreadsheet "myfitnesspal_rawdata" click on the Tools bar on the top row and select script editor

  11. On the new tab that opens select â€‹â€‹Edit on the top bar and then current project triggers

  12. In the bottom right hand corner on the tab that opens click on the "Add new trigger" button

  13. Under "Choose which function to run" select saveData

  14. Under "Select event source" click Time driven

  15. Under "Select type of time based trigger" click Day timer

  16. Under "Select time of day" choose Midnight to 1am

  17. Click "Save" and follow the steps to authorise the script to run

  18. When the "This app isn't verified" screen opens, select "Advanced" and then click "Go to myfitnesspal_rawdata" (The code being used for this does not allow access to anyone accept yourself and all data stays in your ownership)

  19. Click "Allow"

  20. Go back to your "myfitnesspal_rawdata" spreadsheet

  21. Click on "Share" in the top-right corner and select "Get shareable link"

  22. Copy this URL and open your "Nutrition Tracking" google sheet

  23. Click on the "Settings" tab and paste the URL in the box adjacent to "myfitnesspal_rawdata"

Nutrition Settings 

In the "Settings" tab you have the option use set your own macro nutrient targets or use the built in calculator. Select your preferred method under "Goal Settings". You can switch between the in built macro calculator and your own macro inputs at any point in time by changing this setting.

Add your daily step and sleep targets and tick the check boxes if your scales can measure fat and/or muscle mass.

You can now continue by filling out the blank boxes under the "in built calculator" heading or type in your current macro nutrients under the "Select your own macros"

Please note blue cells in the settings page should not be edited, only type in the boxes provided
